BUDDING reporters from a Wrexham high school need your help to claim an international competition win.

Students from Ysgol Clywedog in Wrexham is the only North Wales schools - and one of only two in the country - that has advanced to the finals of the ‘International Young Reporter for the Environment Competition’ (YRE).

A proud head of geography, Nicholas Brown, told the Leader how the pupils were selected out of 182 entries submitted from 31 countries around the world to the International YRE Competition this year.

He said: “All 182 entries have been assessed by a dedicated team from the Head Office of Foundation for Environmental Education and the entries with the highest scores have been shortlisted for the International Jury to review.

“The entry from Ysgol Clywedog was done in collaboration with one of our international partner schools, Colegio Enriquez Soler in Melilla in Spain.”

The video produced by the students tackles a long-standing issue surrounding single-use plastic pollution and explores the impacts it has over their two different countries.

Mr Brown says that to take the top prize, the public will need to get behind the students and vote for them in an online portion of the competition.
