A CHESTER man is to be sentenced after he admitted a series of charges of handling stolen goods.

Michal Filipek, 34, of Queen's Avenue, pleaded guilty to three charges of handling stolen goods when he appeared at Chester Crown Court on Thursday, August 13.

The offences happened on May 16, and Filipek admitted dishonestly receiving a black leather jacket, a black LG TV, an Ultra Titanium tennis racquet, a black tennis case, tennis balls, a blue bag and clothing.

The items belonged to three separate victims.

Filipek, who observed proceedings through a Polish interpreter, denied having dishonestly received a red and black golf bag, golf clubs and a Raleigh M-Trax ladies mountain bike, pleas which the prosecution accepted.

Judge Simon Berkson therefore indicated a not guilty verdict on a fourth charge of handling stolen goods.

Defending, Simon Mills said a pre-sentence report should be prepared for in respect of Filipek.

He also said probation should be aware of a minor offence Filipek committed when in Poland as a juvenile, that being possession of "a small amount" of amphetamine.

The case was adjourned until the week beginning August 31 for sentencing.

  • A second man who appeared at the Chester Crown Court hearing will face trial next January.

Krzysztof Karszewski, 34, of Lightfoot Street, denied a charge of possession with intent to supply MDMA on May 16.

His trial, scheduled to last a day, will take place at Chester Crown Court the week beginning January 25.
