CONSTRUCTION firms in Flintshire are being invited to find out about opportunities on forthcoming housing developments.

Flintshire Council's Strategic Housing and Regeneration Programme (SHARP) continues to make a positive impact on small local businesses within the county.

The programme is building new council and affordable homes across Flintshire and the next phase is due to start at three sites at Nant y Gro and Mostyn, where 71 houses will be built.

Ahead of this, the contractor appointed by the council, Wates Construction, is holding a virtual event that will provide an opportunity for local businesses to find out more about these new housing developments with a view to being employed on a sub-contractor basis.

All local businesses that are construction related and based in Flintshire are welcome to join the webinar on Tuesday, August 18 at 8.30am.

The invitation is extended to all areas of construction including groundworks, bricklayers, roofers, plumbing and electrical contractors, tilers, plasterers, joiners, painters, landscapers and fencers.

The council’s business development team will be attending the event, which will be run in partnership with Flintshire in Business.

Councillor Dave Hughes, Flintshire Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “The successful partnership between the Council and Wates has already seen many local businesses benefit from working with us.

"We have held these events before, but this will be the first one held virtually, due to the unprecedented times we find ourselves in.

“We are keen to continue to generate employment opportunities through the use of local businesses.

"I would encourage small businesses in the construction industry to sign up for this event to find out more and see how they can get involved.”

Dave Saville, business unit director for Wates Construction in the North West, said: “North Wales is the home for many quality construction businesses, and we want to reach out to as many as possible for their support in delivering the next phase of housing for Flintshire Council.

“We hope that with it being a virtual event, more firms than ever are able to take the time to join and learn more about how SHARP is strengthening the region’s housing provision, as well as how they can benefit directly from supplying to these projects.”
