TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular community stalwart from Holywell.

Roslyn Ann Corfield died on July 21 at Glan Clwyd Hospital after testing positive for covid-19. She was 71.

Mrs Corfield, a mum-of-two and a grandmother-of-five, joined the Leader in the mid-80s as a delivery agent.

She organised the paper rounds for the Holywell area, until becoming a circulation area manager for the paper in the 90s.

In the early 2000s, she had to step down from the role due to ill health.

Her daughter Lesley Jones, 53, said: "I remember the children coming to pick up the papers. "On a Thursday and Friday they collect the money and bring it to her house and she'd pay them on a Friday. "She loved the job and she loved seeing the children - as well as paying them, because they'd have a big smile on their faces when they got their wages.

"She used to go canvassing all around the avenues as well, asking people if they wanted the paper delivering. "She loved going to the Leader office in Mold as well - I used to go with her and she had a lot of friends there."

Mrs Corfield's husband Peter, who died 13 years ago aged 63, also worked at the Leader as a delivery driver.

After leaving the Leader, Mrs Corfield joined the neighbourhood watch for Moor Avenue, where she lived.

"She used to watch everyone's back," Mrs Jones said. "She really was a good neighbour.

"I remember when I was in high school she was a lollipop lady at the crossing near the Victoria Hotel in Holywell too.

"She loved that job and even now people remember her.

"She was also a Town Crier for Holywell in the 80s."

Mrs Corfield enjoyed playing bingo, walking her dog Oscar and going on holidays and trips with BLESMA, a military charity for Limbless Veterans.

Mrs Jones added: "My Dad joined them because he was an ex-serviceman with a lost limb.

"When he sadly passed away my mum joined them because she is his widow. They did a lot for my mum."

In addition to her daughter Lesley, Mrs Corfield leaves behind her son Martin and grandchildren Alice, Sally, Rachel, Adam and Luke.

Her funeral took place on July 31 at Northop Crematorium.
