DENBIGHSHIRE residents are being warned to remain vigilant after a Trefnant man lost £2,250 to a financial scam.

North Wales Police's Community Safety Central team, who cover both Conwy and Denbighshire, say the man had been 'taken in' by an advert for Bitcoin, which is a controversial 'digital currency' invented in 2008,

Officers say the man had expressed an interest in investing in Bitcoin and was then 'hounded' until he eventually gave in and gave the scammers his bank details.

The man then authorised a payment for £250, before being scammed into giving up a further £2000.

North Wales Police are reminding anyone taking part in such transactions to 'be aware' as they 'might not be who they claim they are'.

Anyone with concerns should contact 101 or call 999 if it is an emergency.
