PEOPLE in Wrexham and Flintshire can be helped to look beautiful again.

Hot on the heels of hair salons being allowed to open in Wales, beauty salons and tattoo parlours are now able to welcome customers back.

Beauty salons, massage parlours, tanning, piercings, tattoos, electrolysis, acupuncture will all be able to restart today, although treatments on the face should not be carried out for the time being according to Welsh Government advice.

For Silvana Grosvenor, who owns Salon One 20 in Wrexham and Rossett, the easing of restrictions has brought to an end three months of being unable to run her business or meet her clients, many of who have become friends over the years.

She is delighted to now have her full team in the shops as her beauticians are now able to work, with shellac and acrylic nails, pedicures, and spray tans among the services now available again.

She said: "We can't wait to get out full team back and out beauticians can't wait to see all new and existing clients and work their magic!

"We will be offering all our services and our clients can't wait for a well deserved pamper!"

She is happy that due to the understanding of her landlords and the government furlough scheme she was able to retain all her staff.

Speaking on the first morning that hair salons were able to open, Silvana said: "We have had a very busy morning but it was a very calm and relaxing atmosphere.

"It was so lovely to see new and existing clients and get back to doing what we love."

Tanning salons have been taking bookings for appointments today, with guidance for customers about what to expect when they arrive.

On Facebook, Ocean Tanning in Queensferry said: "Not long now, Been busy booking all appointments in, please remember to let us know if it's a lay down or stand up bed you prefer and how many minutes, remember it's been a while and we don't want you to burn."

The opening of tattoo parlours has been welcomed as many people thought they should have been allowed to open earlier due to already adhering to strict hygiene and safety measures.

Paul Smith, owner of Buckley-based Tattoo Smith, said although he is seeking clarity from Flintshire Council over an ongoing planning appeal before reopening, he is very much looking forward to getting back to work.

He said: “When it comes to actually reopening, as long as the guidelines are followed I can’t see it being a problem.

“There’s only so much social distancing you can do when you’re tattooing someone, but we will be using masks, hand sanitiser stations and we’ll be asking customers to bring their own masks as well.”

Describing how the last few months have impacted on him and his business Mr Smith, who has been an tattoo artist for 14 years, said: “It’s been horrendous, but what can you do? You have to follow the rules like everyone else.

“I’ve been working part time at Iceland, delivering to houses.

“I think when we do reopen, it’s going to be a mixed experience.

“A certain percentage of people will be wary of going anywhere, but there will be a good amount of people who can’t wait to get back to the shops.

“I think it’s going to have an effect on the next six months, but we’re going to have to wait and see.”

Catherine and Lyndsey Davies, better known as Welsh horror authors CL Raven, have been looking forward to each getting their sixteenth tattoo.

They said: "We're getting Anubis and Set tattooed on our forearms. We're so excited.

"It has been very frustrating having to wait. Weirdly, tattoos help with our mental health and the more we get, the more confident we feel. We're booked in for September because they're rebooking those whose appointments were cancelled because of lockdown."

Although cinemas can open in Wales from today, movie buffs wanting to attend Cineworld in Broughton and Odeon in Wrexham will have to wait a little longer. Neither has fixed a definite date for reopening, although

A statement reads: "In line with recent changes to upcoming film release dates, we have made the decision to move our re-opening date to 31st July.

"We hope that we will be able to re-open the doors of all Cineworld cinemas across the UK and Ireland at that time, subject to UK government restrictions.

"With the on-going pandemic, this new date remains subject to final confirmation.

We know how much you’ve been missing the cinema and we are excited to welcome you back to Cineworld soon! With great films ahead, including Mulan, Tenet, Proxima, A Quiet Place Part II, No Time To Die and many more, we can’t wait to be back."

Tourist accommodation with shared facilities, such as camping sites and hotels, were able to re-open from Saturday as well as the remaining visitor attractions in Wales.

Amusement arcades, museums and galleries can also reopen.

However, although the lifting of restrictions enables these businesses to reopen, it does not require them to.

People are advised to call their local businesses to find out what, if any services are available, and to make an appointment.

First Minister, Mark Drakeford said: “Thanks to the efforts we have all made to reduce the spread of the virus, we are taking further steps to re-open more of Wales.

“More of our retail, leisure, hospitality and tourism sectors, which play such an important part in our economy, will start to welcome back customers and guests from tomorrow.

“As more places start to reopen, we must get used to some changes to help protect ourselves and the people working in these businesses. This may mean having to book ahead or giving our details to the places we are visiting, to help our Test Trace Protect service, in the event there’s an outbreak of coronavirus.

“It’s the responsibility of all of us to follow these new rules so we can keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

“Coronavirus has not gone away. But if we all work together, we can keep Wales safe.”
