SCORES of vehicles have already been turned away from a popular Snowdonia car park, police have said.

The Chronicle reported yesterday how parking has been suspended at Pen-y-Pass on weekends after more than 500 vehicles parked illegally and irresponsibly last weekend.

North Wales Police announced on social media at about 7.50am on Saturday that about 60 vehicles had already turned up at the site despite the suspension - some even parking near the signage.

A spokesman said: "Drivers said they thought we were 'just bluffing' when we said cars would be towed if obstructing the road...a recovery vehicle is already parked up there.

"Motorists should make full use of the car parking facilities available at Nant Peris and Llanberis as well as at nearby Pen-y-Gwryd and to check [the] Visit Snowdonia website for up-to-date details of their car park.

We want you to enjoy the mountain ranges safely but do so responsibly.
