Cabinet Member for Young people and Culture, Councillor Rachel Powell said; “We are pleased that changes in Coronavirus restrictions mean that we can start to open outdoor play areas. It is not possible to open all areas at the same time safely and we will start the process by opening the county’s largest.

“It will be a complex logistical task and we ask public to work with us to safely manage the areas for the benefit of everyone. Advisory signs will be put in place to help the public understand how to use areas safely.

“Parents, guardians and carers will be responsible for supervising use of the play areas by children, making sure advice is followed. Parents, guardians and carers will need to make sure that children do wash or sanitise their hands before and after using the equipment and before they eat, drink or touch their faces.

“Use of individual pieces of play equipment will be restricted to youngsters from a single household and social distancing must be maintained. We ask that food and drink are not brought into play areas. Some items of equipment may be removed to help maintain social distancing.

It is important that play areas are not used until advisory signs are in place to show that they are open. The play areas need to be inspected by the Council to make sure that equipment is safe for use. This is a specialist task and damage may not be obvious to the untrained eye,” she added.
