DEESIDE'S representative is urging people to work together to 'love where they live'.

Jack Sargeant, MS for Alyn and Deeside, is concerned by pictures in the media of waste being left in parks and public spaces and is asking residents to help make sure Alyn and Deeside is kept litter free.

Mr Sargeant has written to Flintshire Council to ask them to get tough on people who leave waste behind and strongly feels that there are no 'excuses for littering'.

Due to the coronavirus restrictions increasing numbers of people have been meeting in parks and the MS wants everyone to be able to enjoy them litter free. He is also aware that council services are hugely stretched because of increased pressure on them.

Mr Sargeant said: “There are no excuses for leaving litter in parks, if the bins are full then take your waste home. It is not solely the responsibility of the local authority to our area tidy; we all have a part to play.

“I have written to the council asking them to look at increasing enforcement measures in order to fine those responsible to ensure we can all continue to enjoy where we live.

“I know that the vast majority of residents do not leave litter behind, but the actions of a small minority can have a huge impact."

Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy, Lesley Jones has also spoken out about litter as lockdown eases. Lesley added: "Throughout this crisis, we have seen the very best of people in Wales. Despite separation from friends, family, and colleagues, there has been a real feeling of ‘togetherness’.

"As restrictions continue to ease, I implore you to keep this strong, positive community feeling alive to protect the quality of our environment and the resulting well-being of the community in which we live."
