STUDENTS at a Gwersyllt school have shared some of the highs and lows of lockdown through a variety of creative ways.

Ysgol Bryn Alyn set a project for its year seven and eight students to create a lockdown video containing a song, poem or rap.

Amanda Noon, head of expressive arts at the school, said: "We have been setting them homework on Google classroom and there's been a huge emphasis on their wellbeing.

"I wanted to set them a creative project that would be practical.

"So we asked them to make these videos based on their experience of lockdown and sent them some clips that other people had made. "They were asked to focus on the challenges they'd experienced and the positives.

"We have had some really creative responses and it was nice to hear from them about what they have been experiencing.

"In the challenges, some spoke about having to work on laptops and not being able to see their friends.

"For others it was things like being part of football teams and drama clubs and not being able to interact with them in that way.

"In the positives we've seen students say they have more appreciation for their teachers and all key workers.

"They have also said they have had quality family time and that they have managed to play board games, which normally in busy life there doesn't always seem to be time to do.

"They have also been taking on projects with their parents like developing their cooking skills, building sheds and other things."

She added: "I have been incredibly proud of the barriers that our students have overcome, as well as the resilience that they have demonstrated throughout their home learning experience.

"I feel that the arts are such an important form of expression and it has been a pleasure marking this 'drama lockdown project.'

"I am very much looking forward to welcoming our students back into school and seeing the drama studio full of energy and creativity once again."
