DELYN’s Member of the Senedd is urging constituents to “Love Local” and continue to support small and independent businesses as much as possible.

With non-essential retailers reopening this week with physical distancing measures in place, it is important not to forget the small, independent businesses who have adapted and continued to provide for our communities throughout the pandemic.

There are also several small businesses who would have been classed as non-essential and therefore required to shut until this week.

Hannah Blythyn MS said: “Independent businesses will be some of the hardest hit by the coronavirus, with no financial buffer like many larger businesses.

“The Welsh Government have extended their support through the Small Business Rate Relief scheme and offering grants, but now more than ever we need to support these businesses as their doors reopen.”

The “Love Local” campaign will involve the MS using her social media platforms to highlight some of the independent businesses across Flintshire, in order to encourage others to consider spending their money locally and supporting these businesses in their time of need. Ms Blythyn is a keen advocate for small businesses both in her position as a local Member of the Senedd and on a personal level, regularly shopping locally and promoting small businesses throughout the year, as well as joining the annual Small Business Saturday campaign.

In addition, the Delyn MS is urging businesses and constituents to suggest businesses to promote as we adjust to the ‘new normal’.

Ms Blythyn added: “Farm shops, open-air markets, bookshops, restaurants, coffee shops and pubs – the list goes on. If there is a business that you want to recommend them to others, then I want to hear from you.

“There are so many great examples of businesses that have diversified to adapt to current circumstances – from going online, doing deliveries and offering a takeaway service.”

Hannah Blythyn MS has also been engaging with businesses, community groups and constituents about how we can recover from coronavirus and better support our local economy, under the banner “Future Flintshire”.

Flintshire County Council have been working with businesses in recent weeks to get their involvement in the plans to reopen high streets safely.

The council are working on plans to ensure that physical distancing can be achieved in towns across the county so that shoppers feel safe whilst in the area.
