A FLINTSHIRE community raised over £3,500 for the struggling Welsh Mountain Zoo in a two-day fun run.
Around 200 members of the Penyffordd community took part in the event which saw groups of five - many in animal fancy dress - filling half hour slots of running or walking around the village.
The socially distanced fun run took place on Saturday between 10am and 10pm and Sunday from 10am to 1pm - and raised a whopping £3,700 for the Colwyn Bay-based national zoo of Wales.
Earlier this week, the zoo revealed it could close down and could even be forced to put some of its animals down as it remains closed under the Welsh Government's more stringent lockdown measures.
But courtesy of the Penyffordd community, the zoo - which is this weekend collecting the money and other donations such as food for its animals - has received vital funds in its bid to stay afloat.
Steve Saxon, manager of the Red Lion pub in Penyffordd which helped organise the event, said: "I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part - what an amazing day.
"It was brilliant to see so many locals involved and donating to the cause all day long throughout Saturday and Sunday."
