TWO sisters who are deeply concerned about zoo animals have launched a fundraiser for a zoo.

Shylah and Suraya, of Connah's Quay, have launched a new project to help raise funds for the Welsh Mountain Zoo, which is still unable to reopen.

Mum Emma McKenzie said her daughters came up with the idea to paint rocks in an animal/nature theme and create a trail for a £1 donation.

These funds will be donated directly back to the zoo which has not yet announced when it will be able to reopen.

Emma said: "My little girls have become deeply concerned about the animals' welfare and what could happen to them if the zoo remains closed and have been thinking of ideas of how to help.

"They came up with the idea of painting stones/pebbles/rocks in an animal/safari/nature theme and asking people to join and and make some designs and create a trail (similar to the snake trail) then just donate £1.

"That's it for however many stones you want to add. If you wish to donate more then that's fine, if you just want to donate without making a stone that's fine also.

"There are lots of endangered animals within our zoos and parks and its very worrying to know that they are in dire need now."

Shylah and Suraya are going start their animal trail outside the post office in Connah's Quay and the aim is too make the trail travel either side towards Shotton and the other way towards Connah's Quay.

Emma added: "Let's all get involved, let's have some fun, let's help the animals.

"We are donating to The Welsh Mountain Zoo and will be sending the links to our school and after school clubs pages.

"If the trail does exceed what we expect and the zoo reopens, we will ask The Welsh Mountain Zoo to accept the stones to be distributed around the park as a reminder of the donation and effort of everyone."
