A FLINTSHIRE couple who were set to get married last month decided to put their time to good use and raise thousands for charity.

Mark Emberton and Lauren Tilston were set to get married on May 29 in Greece but had to cancel due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They originally were going to ask people to send donations instead of wedding presents to raise funds for Nightingale House Hospice where Lauren works.

This was on the build up to their honeymoon where they were joining 45 others to trek the famous Inca Trail in Peru but their plans have been postponed until 2021.

Instead, the pair decided to complete the 2.6 challenge which started on May 4. Meaning they ran 26 laps around Penyffordd over 26 days.

To make it more interesting, the pair dressed up in a different outfit everyday when they stopped on what would have been their wedding date – May 29 – as they completed the challenge dressed as a bride and groom.

Lauren told the Leader: “It went really well. We’ve nearly reached £3,500 which we are really happy about.

“We completed all 26 runs in 26 different outfits each day.

“We finished the final run on our wedding day and wore a bride and groom outfit and by the end we had a surprise, socially distanced visit from friends and family who had confetti canons, it was lovely.

“The most difficult day was the day before the end when we wore the dinosaur outfits because one got deflated and we could hardly move.

“We are really pleased the amount we raised and it’s not too late for people to donate if they want to.”
