BLAZES on two mountains are now under control, fire chiefs have said.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed at about 5.40pm on Saturday that four crews were in attendance at a fire in the open on Bangor Mountain.
At that time, three further crews were also tackling a mountain blaze at Tregarth.
Homes near Bangor Mountain were evacuated as a precaution as firefighters dealt with the blaze.
Just after 7.30pm, the fire and rescue service announced that the Bangor Mountain fire was under control and that residents were able to safely able to return to their properties.
About an hour later a spokesman told the Chronicle that fires at both mountain sites were "under control in all sectors" and that crews had left Tregarth.
In a short statement on the service's Twitter account, a spokesman added: "Fires like this put lives in danger and tremendous pressure on our resources. Please be responsible."
The causes of the fires, as well as the scale of the damage, are as yet unconfirmed.
Hendrewen Road in Bangor was also closed for a time, but police confirmed at 8.20pm that it had been reopened.
