WORK on a town heritage site is to continue following government advice, it has been confirmed.

On March 24, the contractor TG Williams undertaking the construction work to re-vamp Mold's Bailey Hill made the difficult decision to cease work on site temporarily in order to protect members of staff and the public.

Since downing tools and securing the site, TG Williams has continued to work closely with Harrison Design Development Ltd to develop new working practices as well as redesigning the work schedule on site in order to meet Government Guidelines, Construction Industry Guidelines and the Landscape Institutes ‘Guidelines on Site Visits and Fieldwork During the Covid-19 Pandemic’, in order to safely return to site.

On Monday, May 11, TG Williams returned to the Bailey Hill to prepare the site for the new way of working during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the site was temporary closed it was brought to the attention of the tripartite group behind the project that the dog waste bin at the entrance of the park was within the construction area.

This meant walkers were unable to access when needed, so TG Williams have kindly moved the bin outside the construction area so the facility is now accessible again.

Jo Lane, Bailey Hill project officer, said “It is an extremely positive step forward that the restoration work on the Bailey Hill will be able to continue.

"TG Williams and Harrison Design Development Ltd have worked extremely hard over the last 6 weeks to implement safe working practices in line with all Government guidelines so TG Williams can safely return to site.

“We are currently living in challenging times and the health and safety of all is of paramount importance to the Bailey Hill tripartite group.

"The partnership continues to meet virtually via Zoom in order to continue to progress forward with the Bailey Hill Project.

"The current situation has highlighted more than ever the importance of parks and outdoor spaces and the group are committed to completing the restoration work as soon as possible.

“Although the Bailey Hill is still open we ask that when visiting please mindful of the work taking place and adhere to all signage on site as well as following the social distancing rules outlined by Government.”

Originally the restoration work to Bailey Hill was to be completed by summer 2020.

With delays caused by the pandemic the new expected completion is likely to be Autumn/Winter 2020.

The Bailey Hill Steering Group is now planning for a spring launch event.

Regular updates will be displayed on an information board just inside of the main entrance of the park as well as on the Bailey Hill social media pages, Facebook: @BaileyHillProjectOfficer and Twitter: @bh_officer.

Funding for the project has been secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, LEADER funding through Cadwyn Clwyd, Tourism Amenity Investment Support, Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme as well as from the generosity and fundraising efforts of the local community and other organisations.
