POLICE had to close off a road in Frodsham while firefighters tackled a blaze involving the roof of a detached garage.
Crews were called to the incident on Plumpstons Lane at 1.26pm today (May 27).
Three fire engines from Widnes, Runcorn and Powey Lane attended the scene.
Once firefighters had tackled the flames they had to strip the tiles from the garage roof.
Police closed off Ship Street from the fire station through to Plumpstons Lane.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called at 1.26pm today following reports of smoke coming from a roof of a garage on Plumpstons Lane.
"On arrival crews discovered a fire in the roof space of a detached garage.
"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
"The crews then stripped the tiles from the roof.
"Firefighters used two hose reel jets to damp down the area.
Cheshire Constabulary's Frodsham Police social media accounts posted: "I am just assisting fire officers who are currently in attendance at an incident on Plumpstons Lane off Ship Street.
"Ship Street is currently closed off from the fire station through to just past Plumpstons Lane. Thanks for your patience at this time."
The road reopened shortly after 3pm.
