WE asked Leader readers to get in touch and share a thank you message to the hundreds of key workers who are heading out to work and keeping Flintshire and Wrexham going in unprecedented times - despite the threat of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hundreds of people responded to our call, praising a key worker that they knew. From shop assistants keeping shelves filled with essentials and council workers maintaining services as best they can to the care workers and NHS staff helping to heal and keep people safe from Covid-19.

We continue to shine the spotlight on our everyday heroes, the amazing key workers of our county…

DAVID SUTTON – SUPERMARKET STAFF AND COASTGUARD VOLUNTEER FROM FLINTSHIRE

An anonymous reader said: “Our amazing husband, father, son, brother and uncle David 'Sutty' Sutton is a key worker twice over.

“He spends most days working in our local Asda superstore ensuring that food stock is available for customers and that the shelves are full. There have also been times when he has had to endure angry customers as emotions run high at this terrible time, not something retail workers need right now as the job is already stressful enough at this current time.

“At any moment in time and at the bleep of a pager David can go from stocking the shelves in the Asda store to rescuing people who've got into trouble along the North Wales Coast, the Wirral and in the Cheshire area with the local Coastguard team.

“He is often helping people cut off by the tide and stuck in the mud. These past couple of weeks the Coastguard have been working alongside North Wales Police to provide high visibility patrols, patrolling local beaches and coastal hotspots ensuring that people are sticking to social distancing and complying with the COVID-19 regulations.

“He has been working tirelessly practically every day, putting himself in harm’s way and not knowing who he is coming into contact with on a daily basis. We want to thank him for all that he does for everyone around him and for working so hard, not just at this tough time but all year round.”
