AN overturned lorry caused a section of the A494 in Flintshire to be closed for 18 hours.

Reports of the collision first came in shortly after 10pm on Wednesday night. 

Emergency services including fire and police were in attendance.

Traffic Wales confirmed shortly before 12.30pm on Thursday that lane one heading eastbound has reopened. 

The westbound carriageway remained closed and drivers were advised to avoid the area.

An update was posted by Traffic Wales at 4.40pm today, May 21, to inform motorists that the road was fully reopen.

The Leader has reported today that the driver of the lorry - who suffered minor injuries - had to be pulled from the burning vehicle by passersby, the fire service said.

The person has since been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after failing a roadside breathalyser test, North Wales Police has confirmed.
