FLINTSHIRE students have described how lockdown has been for them.

Bethany Protheroe and Callum Evans, both aged 13 and in year nine at Hawarden High School, have shared their experiences from recent weeks.

Bethany told the Leader: "I have been keeping busy by doing my schoolwork a lot.

"I'm in year nine so we are starting to do our GCSE work in science, which isn't that difficult so far.

"And if I have finished my work, I help my mum by teaching my little sister some maths, which is difficult sometimes.

"I have also helped my mum do the garden. We have dug up roots and got rid of some stones.

"We are going to plant some strawberries, cucumber and more.

"Lockdown is affecting my life a bit because I'm inside with my sisters and my one-year old brother.

"I have kept busy, but it is worrying that a virus can cause the whole world to go into lockdown.

"I'm missing a lot of things, even school.

"The thing I miss the most is going to my friend's for a sleepover and having McDonald's.

"The only thing that’s helping me get through this pandemic is thinking about what I'm going to do with my friends.

"There are three things I am 100 per cent doing- that is going to the beach, going to see a movie and having McDonald's all with my friends."

Callum said: "On the whole, lockdown has been pretty boring but it has been more than manageable.

"During the day I do around 4 hours of schoolwork.

"One of my hobbies is fencing - the sport that is.

"So, every other day I practice on the target in my garage. It is something that keeps me partially active and its better than slouching on my sofa.

"The lockdown has really affected my day-to-day life as normally I go round to my grandparents’ house almost every day so it’s been hard for me not seeing them and has made me appreciate them more and more for what they do for me.

"I personally feel that lockdown has been extremely necessary as it prevents more and more deaths every day and I am quite happy to stay in lockdown.

My advice to other people would be to stay active.

"Go round the block for a walk every once in while.

"You can't become a sofa slob all day as it ruins your working mind set and it will be very tough for you to get back into the right mindset for when lockdown ends."
