A TOWN mayor has expressed gratitude to his community for pulling together to help one another through the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at a meeting of Mold Town Council on Wednesday, cllr Tim Maunders listed and thanked many of the organisations and businesses which have made donations to help keep people safe and in some cases to create smiles during the measures to combat covid-19.

Speaking to the Leader afterwards, he said: "Baa stool in Denbigh gave us 105 visors which they made - those were given to the staff at the Cottage Nursing Home, and to B&M, Bargain Booze and Sunray Day Care Nursery.

"Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Home Bargains, Iceland and B&M all gave us Easter eggs to give away.

"Sunray Day Care Nursery gave us about 60,000 pieces of PPE, which was fantastic. They donated them to the Cottage Nursing Home.

"Pentre Hobyn Estate also supplied PPE for the Cottage and Bedford Steel Fabrications supplied hand sanitizer.

"KMA Tool Hire and Rhyd Y Cleifion care home supplied PPE.

"Airbus supplied seven pallets of food and between Nanny Biscuit, Deeside Round Table and I, we have been giving it out.

"I'd also like to thank Unison and Cllr Sarah Taylor for helping to locate vulnerable people through their contacts. "And I'd like to thank the Eastern Red restaurant, who started this all when they gave us 80 meals to give away just before Lockdown.

"The kindness of people has been amazing, I have been so proud of Mold. "Everyone has pulled together beautifully and I would just like to thank everyone who has been part of this effort.

"They have been working so hard and we at Mold Town Council have been doing our best to keep everything going."

Adding a message to residents, he said: "Bear with it. We'll get out of this.

"When we do, we're going to be living in a different world but this will still be the same old place, the most amazing place to live - Mold."

He described the last 12 months as one of the most "amazing" and "tearful" of his life, explaining: "I've seen so much good, and I've had letters galore from people saying thank you for what we do."
