A GORSE fire in Wrexham took firefighters nearly 24 hours to put out.

The incident sparked at Ruabon Mountain at 5pm on Saturday and involved approximately 5,000 square metres of heather and gorse, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.

One fire crew from Johnstown and another from Llangollen attended, spending several hours at the scene before having to stand down due to loss of light.

They returned on Sunday and the incident finally came to an end shortly after 4pm.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, a spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.
