A VIRTUAL trip to the zoo could be just what some families need as the country is set to remain on lockdown to halt the spread of coronavirus.

Chester Zoo announced that it would close its doors to the public from March 21, in line with government guidance on large gatherings and social distancing.

The popular attraction announced that it would host its first virtual trip to the zoo delivered by social media on Friday, March 27 with another planned for the Easter weekend.

A Chester Zoo spokesman said: “You asked for a third virtual live zoo day, so we’re throwing open our ‘virtual gates’ once again to turn your Good Friday into a great Friday!”

The zoo staff will be live on their Facebook and YouTube pages from 10am on Friday, April 10, as they bring the fun of the zoo to your front room and enjoy a whole day of animal antics from the comfort of your sofa.

Below is the full list of animals that will feature in the tour:

• 10am: Tree kangaroos

• 11am: Asiatic lions

• 12pm: Komodo dragons

• 1pm: Lemurs of Madagascar

• 2pm: Mr Parson’s the chameleon (who starred on C4’s The Secret Life of the Zoo)
