A WREXHAM-based cereal factory has shared what it has been doing to support the community through the coronavirus pandemic.

Kellogg’s, based on Wrexham’s Industrial Estate, have donated thousands of boxes of cereal and treats to those in Wrexham that are on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19.

Donations were taken to hospitals, foodbanks and schools across the county borough that are working to keep the country moving as the virus continues to spread in all parts of the UK.

In the last fortnight, two deliveries of Kellogg’s cereals and snacks were taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, for the nurses, doctors and all NHS staff working on the frontline.

The Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and Foodbank were given 200 boxes of Kellogg’s cereal to support them with feeding the homeless and families on little income.

Cereal was given to Hafod Y Wern Primary School for their Breakfast Club, where they can have between 60 to 100 children per day seeking food.

The Kellogg’s team also delivered cereals to Y Heddfan, Wrexham Hospital’s mental health unit, Wrexham’s community mental health team at Ty Derbyn and dropped off cereals at the Grove Health Centre.

Mervyn Jones, from the Wrexham factory, has been with Kellogg’s for 32 years this year.

He said: “We’re so pleased that we’re able to support our local heroes at this difficult time. In the last two weeks we’ve been out delivering over 9,000 boxes of cereal to a number of our local hospitals, foodbanks and schools.

‘’We’re doing whatever we can at our Wrexham factory to ensure that we’re supporting those who need us most.

‘’We will continue to support our community over the coming weeks and more broadly, we’re ensuring that all surplus food is being donated to charities, such as Fareshare, to be redistributed for those most in need through community centres such as foodbanks, elderly charities and soup kitchens.’’
