AS the coronavirus lockdown continues, those celebrating their birthdays have had to come up with new and innovative ways to celebrate.

Despite non-essential stores and restaurants being closed, this did not stop young Iris Witherden from celebrating her 6th birthday on April 1.

Mum Katie, of Acrefair, said it was not the birthday they had 'envisaged' but the main thing was they were 'all together and safe'.

She told the Leader: "We'd planned to have a bowling party with a cake from Emz cakes and friends from school.

"Instead she was stuck with us, a homemade carrot cake and a Disney+ subscription."

Many people may feel down that they cannot celebrate their birthday in the way they hoped.

But Katie is encouraging families to make the most of it while they can.

She added: "Make this an Unbirthday - like Alice in Wonderland. It's a practice run at it in readiness to properly celebrate next year."
