A LONG-ESTABLISHED shop in Wrexham is keen to support its customers during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Martin Rees Jewellers and Pawnbrokers shop, which is located on Chester Street, has reassured its customers who may be experiencing financial difficulties or who are self-isolating due to the virus pandemic to 'not panic'.

Owners, Ruth and Martin Rees, who have been trading in the town for more than 35 years, said: "Our shop has had to close due to the covid-19 outbreak, and we’ve had quite a few calls already from our pawn customers, worried about what will happen to their pledges (items pawned to obtain a loan, and is used as collateral by the shop until the loan amount, as well as interest and fees are repaid).

"Martin and I view our pawnbroking services as a social responsibility not just for profit, which is why we’re freezing any further interest charges on all outstanding loans, from Sunday, 22 March, until two weeks after the shop is able to re-open, whenever that may be.

"We are able to take debit card payments over the phone, so people can pay off all or part of the existing balance on their loan in the meantime, if they want to but they don’t have to pay anything until the shop is open again.

"We hope this will be a help at this stressful time, as it’s one less thing for people to worry about, so they can concentrate on looking after themselves and their families."
