HEALTH secretary Matt Hancock has today confirmed he has tested positive for coronavirus.

The health sec says he was experiencing mild symptoms and was tested for the virus following advice from the chief medical officer.

In a tweet, he said: “Following medical advice, I was advised to test for coronavirus. I've tested positive.

“Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I’m working from home & self-isolating. Vital we follow the advice to protect our NHS & save lives.”

In a video message, Mr Hancock said he will be isolating for seven days, until April 2.

The news comes hours after it was announced that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had also tested positive for COVID-19.

Mr Johnson said: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.

“I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.”
