WREXHAM Council are urging the public to follow the new laws in place surrounding coronavirus.

Their public protection service are keen to remind residents and businesses the importance that they play in helping to reduce the spread of the virus by simply complying with the laws that have been introduced by the Government.

They have stated that to minimise the spread, different types of businesses have had no choice but to close, in order to eliminate contact between customers and staff, as well as to discourage people from making non-essential journeys.

Pubs, restaurants, cafés have all had to shut along with a host of other retail businesses.

However, there are some exceptions to these closures, as supermarkets, food retailers, pharmacies and other shops selling essential items are allowed to remain open.

Takeaways may also continue to trade and restaurants, pubs and cafés that are otherwise having to close can also provide a takeaway service.

The council also highlighted that it is vitally important that businesses comply with these laws, and for people to stay at home and to only leave for the very limited reasons set out by Government to not only help reduce the spread of the virus, but to also protect the NHS.

Since these restrictions have come into force, the council have stated that the vast majority of businesses have responded by closing, but they have been made aware of a few premises that have been ignoring the new rules.

They have also received reports of pubs opening or having 'lock ins' or similar breaches.

The council pointed out that they are aware of the financial impact that these measures will have on businesses but ignoring these new restrictions and failing to close could put lives at risk.

Their public protection officers, working in partnership with North Wales Police, will now be taking any breach of the new laws very seriously.

Businesses that fail to comply can be prosecuted and licenses to serve alcohol will be at risk.

Any business that has any doubt or concerns as to how it is affected by the new laws on closure should seek advice.
