A BROUGHTON care home has increased its internal activities after closing to visitors during the coronavirus outbreak.

Warrendale Cottage cares for 29 residents aged between 67 and 105 old who have a number of varied health conditions that are some of the most at risk to Coronavirus including respiratory problems, COPD, diabetes, Parkinsons, cancer, heart failure and stroke.

After taking the decision to close the home to visitors in February, the team have increased their daily activities to keep up the positive spirits.

Tim France, registered manager, said: “At Warrendale Cottage we care for some of the most vulnerable members of the local community.

“We took the decision to close the home to visitors on Friday 13 to limit the potential infection risk and since then our residents have only been visited by Doctors and District Nurses, all external entertainments and family and friend visitors have been postponed.

“To help keep the positive spirits for the residents and the staff we have increased our internal activities including new board games, card games, hook a duck, sewing, painting, hoopla, chair exercises and karaoke.

“For Mother’s Day, a day which emphasised the new distance between our residents and their loved ones plus an always special day to remember their own parents our Responsible Individual Sarah Kirby rang one of our residents favourite entertainers Allan Murray who came to provide entertainment from the safety of the homes garden by playing music for the residents inside.

“This wonderful and kind surprise for the residents led to much dancing, laughing and smiling and a good time was had by all residents and staff.”
