MP FOR Clwyd South has said it is important to ‘give local businesses the financial support they need’ in order to survive after the coronavirus crisis has passed.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, pledged his support for Clwyd South businesses by ensuring that they are able to take full advantage of Government support during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Simon Baynes, the Conservative MP for the Clwyd South area, said: “It is so important to me that during this difficult time, when so many families will be listening to the Government’s advice to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives, that we give local businesses the financial support they need so they can carry on going once this crisis has passed.

“I urge any businesses in Clwyd South with concerns about accessing Government support to get in touch with my office. That goes for employees and workers too.

“I am here to help and want to do so in any way I can.”

This assurance came as Mr Baynes addressed the Chancellor during questions in the House of Commons Chamber to reaffirm the Government’s support for businesses – small and large – in Clwyd South as well as across Wales and the UK.

In response to the question, the Chancellor responded: “I thank my Hon. Friend for his comments and also pay tribute to the work he is doing to represent his constituents and make sure that his local businesses get the support they need.

“I hope his businesses welcome the various interventions that we have provided; providing cash flow support; tax relief; deferrals and subsidised loans to help them get through this difficult period.

“And, if he has further ideas he thinks we should consider, I would be very happy to talk to him further.”
