WREXHAM’S MP has given her thanks to hardworking NHS staff keeping communities across the country safe as the coronavirus outbreak develops.

In an letter penned to Betsi Cadwaladr’s chief executive, Sarah Atherton MP gave her thanks to the healthcare workers that are rolling up their sleeves and working through the pandemic to ensure people are kept safe and well but asks what provisions are in place to keep staff safe as pressure mounts on strained hospitals.

She said: “I write to you today first and foremost to thank the hardworking NHS staff who will be keeping us safe during the coronavirus pandemic a it moves through Wales over the coming weeks and months. As a former nurse, I know only too well the challenges that they face in normal times, let alone when a pandemic hits.

“I do also want to ask what provisions are being put in place to ensure that patients and NHS staff are being protected during the increasing pressure that will be place upon our hospitals this year.”

Ms Atherton says that, as the coronavirus spreads, many more people will be presenting to hospitals with symptoms. This leaves her with concerns that NHS staff will come under incredible pressure and risk infection themselves as they fight to bring normality back to the country.

She also raises concerns about the availability of protective equipment needed in hospitals across North Wales – including the Maelor hospital within her constituency.

She continues: “Our NHS staff do some incredible work and cannot be creditied enough. So, I also wonder what BCUHB is doing to support those doctors and nurses who will be working exhausting hours in difficult conditions, to ensure their mental and physical wellbeing is taken care of?”
