KIND residents have rallied together to help the most vulnerable and those in need of support during the spread of Covid-19.

Love: North Wales Coronavirus Help & Support has been set up on Facebook by Brian Taylor, of Prestatyn. The public group, which has already attracted 4,000 members, aims to share information on the coronavirus pandemic and gives a platform to people wanting helping and support.

Another group - Covid-19 Community Response - Prestatyn, Meliden & Rhyl - has been created by Steve Purse.

This private group aims to connecting people and businesses in the area that can help those who need support.

Brian said: "With the realisation of the global impact of the spread of Covid-19, we quickly realised that this was going to have a devastating effect on the community. We wanted to create a group where we could collate advice and offer support in a controlled and sensitive way so as not to add to the panic that many people are feeling.

"The public response has been overwhelming so far and gives us confidence, that over the coming months, we can help so many people. We have an amazing support network with the admins and moderators on the group, some who are vulnerable themselves or carers for vulnerable people so we fully understand and sympathise with everyone and hope the public work together and stay safe throughout this.

"The group grew to 4,000 members in a matter of days which demonstrates this is what is desperately needed – guidance, structure and support.

"We are compiling best practises and working with the local authority to safeguard any service users and our growing list of volunteers.

"We have been inundated with questions and support already but we must stress, we are not experts nor medically trained. We ask that people follow the advice given from the government and their own medical practitioners."

The group is asking for people to register their interest to volunteer.

"We are here for everyone without discrimination, and will help and do all we can to assist those in our community," Brian added.

Talking about the private group, Steve - who moved to Prestatyn from the Wirral in 2015 - said: "I was looking for a group where those in need locally could be put in contact with local people and businesses who have so generously offered to help others who are self-isolating.

"I am in the risk group and am physically disabled so wanted to help the community that has made feel so welcome.

"I cannot go out and physically help so I thought I would use my other skills and set up a group to bring us all together to get through these uncertain times."

Steve, who is in the final stage of an Open University degree in Forensic Psychology, added: "I want this group to cut through the misinformation on social media and focus on what really matters, our community and our vulnerable people."
