A FLINTSHIRE high school will be closed for some pupils tomorrow due to staff shortages.

Year 9 pupils at Connah’s Quay High School will not be required to attend school on Wednesday, March 18.

A letter, issued by the school’s interim head, said that ‘difficult decision’ was made due to staff absences.

She said: “In light of staff absence, in consultation with the chair of governors and officers at Flintshire County Council, we have made the difficult decision to close Connah’s Quay High School on March 18 for learners in Year 9 only.

“Please be aware that we have not taken the decision of a partial closure lightly, and we would expect all learners in Year 9 to be ready to return to school on Thursday.

“If in the meanwhile, there is a different decision communicated by the Government to schools in Wales, this would be communicated immediately to all parents/carers.

“Thank you for your understanding and support, as we continue to manage the school under especially challenging circumstances for all.”

The school has set the pupils to work on at home on Wednesday and all other year groups are expected to attend school as normal.

The school made a post on their website on March 16 about the measures in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesman said: “Please be assured that the school is following all guidance which has been given by Welsh Government with regards to the COVID-19 virus.

“Thank you for your understanding. Please be reassured that we are doing everything possible to ensure that your child is in a safe environment.”
