A WREXHAM man facing charges in relation to a £1.8million VAT fraud has had his case adjourned due to the coronavirus.

Graham Drury, 68, of Strathalyn in Rossett, was due to appear at Mold Magistrates Court on Monday, in relation to three charges. However, the firm of solicitors representing him contacted the court last Friday to say both he and his representative had been advised to self-isolate for a period of 7-14 days after coming into contact with a person who had recently returned home from a trip to Rome.

Despite prosecutor Justin Espie opposing against the application to adjourn matters, Chair of the Magistrates Hillary Wiseman said the bench had little option but to do so for a period of two weeks.

She said: “We are in unchartered territory here.

“If people have been told they need to self-isolate, we need to acknowledge that. It is something that is going to crop up on more than this occasion.

“Enforcing a warrant to an address where there is a possible infected person could create other problems.”

Mr Drury will now appear in court on March 31.
