AN ABERGELE secondary school is debating whether to close its doors in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan said it is preparing 'for all eventualities', including the possibility of a partial or full closure.

Writing to parents and carers, Lee Cummins, headteacher at Emrys Ap Iwan, said: "Our approach to whatever may happen in the coming weeks and months will be based on the advice and guidance given by Public Health Wales, the Welsh Government and the local health professionals.

"We have been following all advice throughout this situation and will continue to do so.

"A partial closure would mean closing the school to some year groups and a full closure would obviously affect all learners. Again, we would only take the decision to close the school if we were asked to do so by one of the agencies.

Resources, support materials will be available from the website.

Mr Cummins added: "We are aware that this situation will cause particular anxiety for learners in Year 11, 12 and 13 in terms of their examinations. We will do everything we possibly can to support the learners during this difficult time.

"I appreciate your support and understanding whilst we look after all the young people in our school."
