DO you have the skills, knowledge and dedication to become a champion butcher?

A nationwide hunt is underway to find talented and skilled butchers to compete in the Butchery WorldSkills UK Competitions 2020.

Organised by award-winning, Welsh training provider Cambrian Training, the butchery competition is supported by an Industry Steering Group and sponsored by The Institute of Meat, The National Craft Butchers, The Worshipful Company of Butchers and Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Wales.

It has been designed by industry experts and is also free to enter.

Participation in the competitions has proven to enhance an individual’s career prospects with 90 per cent of entrants saying that they had seen improvements in their career prospects after taking part.

It focuses on the essential skills required for a successful career as a multi-skilled butcher within the food manufacturing industry.

Butchers are tested for overall skill, innovation, creativity, presentation, work ethic, method and approach to tasks, carcass and primal utilisation, waste and safe and hygienic working practice.

To enter, butchers need no qualifications, but must not have completed a qualification higher than a level four in 'Food Manufacturing Excellence' or equivalent.

They must possess core competencies and the ability to work under pressure in front of an audience.

Each successful entrant that makes it through the National Qualifiers, which takes place between May and June 2020, in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Midlands and the South of England, will proudly represent their college, employer or training provider in the National Finals held at WorldSkills UK LIVE.

Online applications are available now until April 2, via www.worldskillsuk.org

Attracting more than 70,000 visitors, WorldSkills UK LIVE is the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event and takes place from November 19 until 21 at the NEC, Birmingham.

Any business or organisation wishing to sponsor this year’s competition is asked to contact Katy Godsell at Cambrian Training via katy@cambriantraining.com or via 01938 555893 (option 4).
