A DISCOUNT store is closing its doors in Wrexham town centre.

QD – QualityDiscounts.com - has announced that its store in Hope Street is to be closed in May.

18 full and part time staff are currently employed at the store - the building of which was formerly home to M&S - with them being informed of the decision on Monday.

Karl Ottolangui, associate director at QD, said: “We are very sad indeed to be making this announcement.

"QD has been part of the retail landscape in Wrexham for the past 10 years and our store has built up a very loyal customer base.

The Leader:

M&S was the former home of the QD building on Hope Street, Wrexham

"We’d like to say thank you to all of them for choosing to shop with us in the town.

“Our staff too have been an enormous asset and we will be doing all we can to help every one of them find alternative employment in the area. Decisions to close stores are not taken easily and in no way reflect the hard work undertaken by our valued staff, in fact quite the opposite.”

QD says that a combination of factors has led to the decision.

Explaining the decision, Mr Ottolangui said: “A key reason for our decision was the noticeable decline in footfall within the centre of Wrexham, with a decreasing number of retailers attracting people to the town centre.

"This has had an understandable impact on our trading figures."
