PRESTATYN Sports are still searching for their first league win of the season after they were beaten 3-1 at Llanrwst United.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side produced a spirited display against the in-form Rwsters’ before eventually falling to defeat, with their relegation fate already sealed due to their inability to meet new criteria being implemented by the Football Association of Wales in time for next season.

A busy week for Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side begins with a daunting trip to title-chasing Denbigh Town on Wednesday evening, before Sports’ are on the road again on Saturday against St Asaph City.

Despite the eventual result it was the visitors who started the brighter of the two sides, and they were rewarded with a shock opener on 14 minutes thanks to a fine finish from Kris Owen.

This was met by a good response from United, who got back on level terms midway through the half when a neat passage of play was finished off by Chris Nicholson with 24 on the clock.

Things went from bad to worse for the away side soon after when talented teenager Benn Lundstram, a recent signing from Gwynedd League leaders Bangor 1876, showed his class on 36 minutes to put the hosts ahead for the first time.

After the interval saw Sports’ try valiantly to get themselves back on level terms to no avail, and they were undone again late on when Nicholson pounced for his second of the afternoon on 79 minutes to round off the scoring.

Sports have now lost all but two of their league fixtures so far this season and are ten points adrift of second-from-bottom Llandyrnog United.
