PRESTATYN Town will take on The New Saints at the JD Welsh Cup semi-final stage after a narrow 1-0 win at Flint Town United.

The Seasiders’ got the better of Niall McGuinness’ men for a third time this season to book their place in the final four, where they face the daunting task of ousting the top-flight champions.

Town thought they had broken the deadlock on four minutes when skipper Michael Parker steered a Zebb Edwards into the net, only for the effort to be ruled out.

United grew into the game as the half progressed and carved out a fantastic opening on 17 minutes, but Richie Foulkes’ strike was superbly diverted by visiting custodian Jon Rushton.

Forward Mark Cadwallader was the next to go close for the Silkmen when he disposed Myles Hart on 23 minutes, but he once again found Rushton in fantastic form with another eye-catching save the keep the scores level.

The away side created one significant chance of note during the first half, with Alex Jones failing to latch onto an errant back-pass to Aaron Jones.

After the break saw Cadwallader go close for the hosts again on 50 minutes when he fired into the side-netting after a long ball from Tom Kemp.

The introduction of Jack Kenny on 52 minutes proved crucial, and the forward wasted no time in making an impact on the tie when he got on the end of a Davies flick to fire left-footed into the corner and break the deadlock with 55 on the clock.

Davies almost went from provider to scorer on 64 minutes when he failed to get his shot away from a promising position after good work from Dan Roberts.

Callum Bratley spurned the home side’s best chance of a leveller in the closing moments, and Cadwallader’s shouts for a penalty were waved off as Town saw out the game to progress.

The semi-final encounter will be played at a neutral venue to be decided on the weekend of April 4-5.
