THE region may have been hit by storms and flooding, snow may be on the way, but no weather conditions will deter an ex-soldier from undertaking his survival challenge.

John Hughes, of Mold, who spent 20 years in the Army with the Royal Welch Fusiliers and 23 Pioneer Regiment, says he will not be deterred from undergoing a survival challenge in woodland near Nercwys between March 9 and 13.

The Leader previously reported that John, along with friend Tim Fergusson, from Belfast, will live "off grid" to raise awareness and money for Rock2Recovery, a community interest company with the mission to save and change the lives of those in the Armed Forces, veteran community, and their families who are affected by stress.

Since then, North Wales has been lashed by severe weather, including Storms Ciara and Dennis, and heavy rain and flooding.

But John, 44, said: "To be honest, we are determined to do this. The weather might be bad but you get what you are given with something like this.

"Even if there is a torrent of rain, we will be there. We are committed."

John's fundraising page has now reached £660.

John, who works in the gym at St David's Park Hotel in Ewloe, said: "I want to thank all the Leader readers who have supported us so far. Without their support there really would be no point in us doing this."
