INTENSE rainfall has resulted in 'hundreds' of reports, a council chief said.

The Leader has previously reported the devastation across the region following Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis.

Many parts of Flintshire and Wrexham were left underwater and annual events like Mold's Pancake Race had to be cancelled.

Flintshire County Council’s Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, Steve Jones, said they have dealt with a high volume of weather related calls.

He added: "We have dealt with a high volume of weather-related calls over the previous three weekends, due to high winds and flooding caused by extensive rainfall.

"In all instances, we have responded as quickly as possible to deal with the problems, having received hundreds of out-of-hours requests and reports of trees down and flooding.

"The intense rainfall that fell across the county in a relatively short period of time has led to the sheer volume of water to overwhelm the existing drainage systems in some instances.

"Debris that fell and washed down has resulted in gratings and grids becoming clogged up, and we responded to issues as we became aware of them.

"Where flood water has not receded, flood warning signs are being deployed across the network."
