SHOCKING pictures show how flood waters in Bangor-on-Dee left a motorcyclist clinging on to a hedge as he waited to be rescued from the high waters.

On Sunday, the Leader reported that one motorcyclist had to be rescued by fire crews on the A525/Straight Mile, and the images show just how dramatic his rescue was.

The biker can be seen desperately holding on to branches on either side of his body as a water incident unit from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service approached him.

A crew of five emergency responders waded through the water to get to the man who was sprawled on top of a hedge, which itself was barely above the water level.

His motorbike was washed away by the water as the rider attempted to pass through the badly flooded A525 ‘Straight Mile’ despite the road being closed to all traffic.

The incident was reported to the fire service at around 4.15pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for the fire service told the Leader that the motorcyclist was rescued and left in the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service.

They also warned motorists not to ignore the road closures, adding: "If the road is closed due to the weather please don't ignore the road closure signage.

"It is there for your safety. Crews have been called out twice to the same location in Bangor on Dee (on Sunday)."

North Wales Police have also urged people to heed the warnings of road closures, saying: “If the road is closed due to the weather, please don’t ignore the road closure signage – it is there for your safety.”

Crews were in Bangor-on-Dee just hours earlier following calls of a car stuck in flood water on the same road. However, when firefighters arrived, there was nobody in the vehicle.
