BANGOR City extended their unbeaten JD Cymru North home record to five with a 2-0 win over Conwy Borough.

The resurgent Citizens’ continued to show signs of life with another important three points, leaving Pedro Pasculli’s men brimming with confidence ahead of their tricky looking trip to Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant on Saturday.

The home side carved open the first chance of the game on six minutes when defender Lucas Surber’s shot deflected wide, with Corrig McGonigle thwarted by an outstanding last-ditch tackle at the other end after capitalising on hesitancy with nine on the clock.

City spurned a fantastic opening midway through the half when Esteban Goicoechea was sent through on goal with 24 gone, but the prolific forward saw his attempt parried by Huw Shaw into the path of Piero Cauterucci, who was unable to put away the rebound.

Craig Whelan’s strike on 25 minutes brought a fine save from home custodian Jorge Laborda, which proved to be crucial as the hosts managed to break the deadlock towards the end of the first half.

It came courtesy of Santiago Chacon, who conjured up a curling effort that gave Shaw no chance after good work from Goicoechea and Francesco Serafino on 39 minutes.

Serafino went close to doubling their advantage on 43 minutes when his rasping strike flew inches wide of the post, with Goicoechea and Chacon wasteful in front of goal in first half stoppage time.

After the break saw the Tangerines’ come close to getting back on level terms when a Tomos Clark run was blocked tremendously by Eugenio Dalia and the danger was averted.

The introduction of Harry Galeotti and John Littlemore provided some additional spark for the visitors midway through the half, but it was City who would dominate this portion of the contest with Hugo Colace somehow missing the target on 68 minutes with three efforts, the second of which rattled against the post.

Pasculli’s men were presented with a golden opportunity to seal the points when they were awarded a penalty on 80 minutes after foul on Emmanuel Agyemang, and Serafino held his nerve to put away the spot kick.
