THE NHS in North Wales has once again been recognised for its commitment to supporting equality and inclusion across its workforce.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has been named as the best ranked Welsh health employer by lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity Stonewall in its Top 100 Employers list for 2020.

The Health Board has been placed 39th in this year’s top 100, and is the second highest ranked of all the NHS organisations in the UK that took part.

All of the Top 100 are members of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme, which helps employers to embed LGBT+ inclusion across their workplaces, in their services and with the communities they are part of.

Sue Green, executive director of workforce and organisational development, said: “We are delighted to once again feature in the Stonewall Top 100, especially as the best ranked health employer in Wales.

“The health board is committed to its values of equality and fairness, priding itself as inclusive for our 17,000 employees and the wider community.

“This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work of everyone at the Health Board who has worked to help achieve acceptance for LGBT+ people over the past year.”

On compiling the Top 100, Stonewall collects thousands of anonymous responses from employees on their experience of the UK’s workplace culture and diversity.

Organisations then receive their scores, enabling them to understand what’s going well and where they need to focus their efforts, as well as see how they’ve performed in comparison with their sector and region.
