THOUSANDS of pounds have been donated to a local angling club to 'offer more opportunities'.
Connah’s Quay and District Angling Club has been awarded £2,543 from Comic Relief Community fund Wales.
Alan White, Vice Chairman, said that the money was a 'real boost' and is 'greatly received.
He added: "Every year during the school summer holidays the club holds free training sessions on its 'Start early, fish for life' programme for children aged 4 to 15, which is always well attended.
"Now it’s offering more opportunities for the local community having been in contact with charitable organisations, mental health and disabled groups, which during this year will be offered free sessions in support of their health and wellbeing, provided by club volunteers
"It has been used to replace worn out fishing equipment, increasing the number of sets so that the club can continue to provided opportunities to encourage youngsters off computers, from street corners into an active sport and for charitable organisations, the mental health and disabled groups to also enjoy being outside in a beautiful setting at the Rosie lake, within Wepre Park, the Jewel in Flintshire's Crown enjoying the atmosphere whilst learning to fish."
