WITH a second storm looming, organisers of a half marathon are ‘devastated’ that they have to cancel their upcoming event
The Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon announced on social media today, Saturday, that plans for the upcoming 13-mile race around the town will not be going ahead due to concerns over the weather.
With Met Office weather warnings in place, organisers have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the race.
A spokesman for the event said: “After all the hard work to recover from Storm Ciara, including implementing a different course, we are devastated but we cannot risk the welfare of our runners, staff and marshals.
“We will spend the next 48 hours removing parts of the course that have already been set up and send a further update on Monday morning.
“Again, we are really sorry that the race has been cancelled and thank you for your patience over the last few days.”
The race was forced to make some changes to its route during the last week after Storm Ciara’s aftermath left some parts of the course underwater with flooding, the Leader previously reports.
