"DESPICABLE" burglars have targeted the home of an elderly couple in Wrexham.

Police said the incident occurred on Buckingham Road in Garden Village at about 8pm on Wednesday (February 12).

It saw four men break in through a locked conservatory door and discover a substantial amount of cash.

After disturbing the intruders, an elderly occupant of the house was grabbed by the shoulders and threatened - but the perpetrators soon made off with the money, North Wales Police said.

The force is now appealing to anyone with information relating to this incident to come forward, and are urging people to look out for neighbours.

It comes to light after the Leader reported on Thursday about a spate of early evening burglaries in the Wrexham area.

Detective Inspector Mark Hughes said: “This was a despicable crime targeting an elderly couple.

"I would ask people to please keep an eye on elderly and vulnerable neighbours and report any suspicious activity.

"We are appealing for anyone with information about this crime to do the right thing and contact us on 101 quoting reference number Y020798.”
