A LOCAL councillor has called for major improvements to be made to the street lighting on a Flintshire road.

Queensferry Community Councillor, David Wisinger, raised his concerns about the lighting on Station Road at a local meeting on Tuesday (February 11).

The Leader reported in January that the heads of the iconic blue lampposts on the busy road were in the process of being replaced due to a fault in them.

However, despite these changes to the streetlights, Mr Wisinger and his fellow councillors believe that not enough light is being emitted from them.

Speaking at the Queensferry Community Council meeting, Cllr Wisinger said: “The lighting is very bad on Station Road, and particularly poor by the Spar store in particular.

“They’ve put new lamps up and they look lovely, but they don’t give out anywhere near enough light and it’s a real danger to pedestrians and drivers.

“Drivers just can’t see some of the people who walk or run out on to the road, especially those who are wearing dark clothing.”

The Leader:

The issue was raised just days after a man was left seriously injured in an alleged hit and run incident close to the Spar on Station Road.

One man has since been arrested in connection with the incident which happened at around 9pm on Saturday (February 8).
