FLITNSHIRE Assembly Members have present a Mold-based brewery with a certificate in celebration of their locally produced beers.

Delyn AM Hannah Blythyn was joined on a visit to the Hafod Brewing Company in Mold by Jack Sargeant AM to learn more about their brewing process and present its owner and head brewer, Phill Blanchard, with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Hafod Brewing Company was founded by Phill in 2011 with the aim of bringing exceptional beer to the local area and beyond. Nine years on and Phill has created over 50 different beers, from Iron Age ale to IPAs, using the best quality ingredients.

Hafod is a small family-run brewery based on two sites in the family’s hometown of Mold.

The original one-barrel brewery now operates as a test bed for new brews and some of their small batch beers, like Dubbel, Hammer and Moel Fenlli Honey Ale. Their newer, 15-barrel brewhouse on Gas Lane is where the core range of beers and seasonal brews are made.

Hannah Blythyn AM said: “I want to thank Phill and his family for hosting us. It was great to see the local brewery in action and to see the family run business going from strength to strength since my first visit a few years ago.

“I was pleased to be able to welcome Hafod Brewing Co. to the Discover North East Wales event I held at the National Assembly for Wales last year, helping to bring this brilliant local business to the attention of a wider audience, so I was only too happy to work with my Flintshire Assembly colleague to see the brewery receive recognition from the Cross Party Group on Beer and Pubs.”

The Cross Party Group (CPG) on Beer and Pubs at the National Assembly for Wales, chaired by Mr Sargeant, celebrates the growing number of breweries and the contribution pubs make to our communities.

The Alyn and Deeside AM said: “It was a real pleasure to see first-hand the innovative brewing process at Hafod. Their beer is excellent and it is clear that they are passionate about what they produce.

“As Chair of the CPG on Beer and Pubs, I am keen to celebrate and promote locally produced beers across Wales and I am extremely pleased that Hafod Brewery Co. are the first brewery to take part in the Brew with your AM initiative.”

Pubs, hotels, cafes and shops around the North-West and Wales stock Hafod’s cask and bottle beers, as well as festivals.

Martin Godfrey, of Hafod Brewing Company, said: “It was great to welcome Hannah and Jack to Hafod Brewing Company - they are brilliant champions for local businesses. We are a family business that is dedicated to producing high quality produce and we were pleased to be recognised with the certificate they have presented to us.”
