IN A CRUNCH game at the top of Division One of The Nexa Law Oswestry and District Table Tennis League, Caereinion A took a big step in their pursuit of the title by beating nearest rivals, Morda Tigers 7-3.

Huw Jones and Wyn Williams were both undefeated – the key match being a mighty close five-set win for Wyn against Jack Hughes.

Morda Eagles eased into second place following two victories.

The first, an 8-2 win at Morda A, saw Bozena Swietlicka pick up her sixth player of the match award of a magnificent season.

Brian Suckley and Allen Roberts were the point scorers for the home side; next up for The Eagles were Kinnerley Knights who were dispatched 10-0.

Mariusz Piechota was imperious for The Eagles while The Knight’s Ivan Watkiss again posed problems and was unlucky to emerge pointless.

The Knights lost narrowly at home to Llansilin Drovers – 6-4. Pete Scott and Harvey Kynaston won their games for The Drovers while Josh Roberts – making his Division One debut for The Knights, joined Bob Andrews and Julian Walford in taking a point each.

Division Two is heating up nicely with three teams vying for the title. Kinnerley Crusaders have the points in the bag following victories against Morda Lions and Morda Panthers.

Winning 7-3 against The Lions – Phil and Iain Botley and Mark Roberts each won two out of three for The Crusaders but The Lions’ Jim Reeves was the star player, winning 100 per cent on the night.

The Crusaders followed up with a 10-0 win at Morda Panthers with Iain Botley leading the way. Although The Panthers didn’t win a point, Jenny Groves fought hard all the way.

The Panthers went to title contenders – Lansilin A and lost 8-2. Jenny and Briony Rann both won games while for Llansilin, Aaron Morris maintained his excellent form and has only lost one match all season.

Aaron was well-backed up by Pat Lovell who also won his three games.

In a busy period, The Panthers also lost to Kinnerley Royals 7-3. Max Johnson shining for The Royals and Jenny Groves winning two of her three games.
